NETO race 7 completed at Island dragway July 8
It was a beautiful day for a race, yet also a sad one as it was our first race since the passing of NETO president Tony Feil. Forty five racers came to compete in the race which we dedicated to the memory of Tony Feil. The race was sponsored by Select Performance of West Babylon NY. Two of Tony Feil’s three daughters, and their families attended the race and were gracious enough to present the trophies.
Prior to the race, a short tribute to Tony Feil was held. A special commemorative flag was unveiled and a moment of silence was held. The flag will be flown at the NETO tent for the rest of the season.
Former two time champion John Giambertone won his second race in a row. Bob Sherwood was runner up. John drove his 1965 Comet Cyclone, “Psyched Clone” high winding” small block Ford to a 9.618 on a 9.50 index for the win. Bob Sherwood drove his big block 1969 Chevy Nova to a red lighting 8.849 on an 8.90 index for runner up.
Al Zimbaldi took the Nostalgia Eliminator win in his big block chevy 1969 Camaro, “Rat Pack 1”. Greg Schreiner drove his 1968 small block Camaro to runner up. Al Zimbaldi won with a 10.17 on a 10.16 dial. Greg turned a redlighting 12.00 on a 11.97 dial for runner up.
